    KENWOOD IS SEEKING TO FILL AN R&D SENIOR TECHNOLOGIST POSITION.

    MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO (Communications) --

    POSITION:     R&D Senior Technologist, R&D Department. Professional Systems Division
     
    LOCATION:   Mississauga, ON
     
    JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the R&D Manager, this position will be responsible for writing and modifying existing code for embedded controllers and will handle both minor and major software projects from inception to completion as recommended by the R&D Manager or Yokohama Engineering.
     
    This position interfaces with department managers and personnel in the KENWOOD Canada Professional Systems Division, KENWOOD USA and JVCKENWOOD Corporation. You will be required to work with our Japan Engineering team or through the local liaison.
     
    Gather information from customers/market and feed back to Japan for future product development.
     
    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    • Strong familiarity with Land Mobile Radio. Specifically, KENWOOD radio equipment; NEXEDGE® an asset.
    •  Strong familiarity with networking and IP.
    • Competent knowledge of electronics and electronic components.
    • Ability to read electronics schematics.
    • Graduate of an Electronics or Communications Technician/Technologist program or equivalent work experience (8+ years’ experience).
    • Ability to interface directly with Authorized Dealers nationally and respond accordingly.
    • Preferred knowledge: Industry experience writing specific applications in Assembly and C++ for embedded microprocessors. Must write for economy & stability with strong documentation skills.
    • Software programming experience; C++, Visual C, C#, Java, Python.
    • Embedded Linux experience preferred.
    • DSP experience preferred
    • Bilingual; fluent in French an asset 
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Create and/or modify radio embedded firmware and programming software
    • Customize KENWOOD firmware and software to provide new features and functionality for dealers and end-users.
    • Work with other R&D staff as required and coordinate with other engineering groups within the organization.
    • Recommend product software improvements; participate with new product investigation team tours as requested.
    • Investigate new technologies which will benefit the Professional Systems Division.
    • Technical Support for LMR and amateur products including phone and email.
    • Training users on NXDN® Trunking Systems and KENWOOD related products.
    • Support sales team (RFP/RFQ’s and general questions).
    • Test new third party devices and applications.
    • Assess new equipment to be incorporated with NEXEDGE® (new routers etc.).
    • Maintain constant coordination with members of other departments within the division
    • A good communicator, both verbally and in writing, of technical and business subject matters.
    • Must be methodical and careful, with a strong attention to detail.
    • Provide guidance on best practice in Project Management to members of the Professional Systems team.
    • Actively involved in the planning, research, development process of all projects, and process development to support
    • Run Professional Systems R&D projects through a formal review process.
    • Develop, manage and protect company’s intellectual property relating to technology.
    • Maintain all Systems R&D work instructions.
    • If required; responsible for allocating budget/funds for projects
    • Ability to travel as required.
    • Assume other responsibilities as required in order to carry out the duties of Systems R&D Manager.
