4.2M Contract awarded to KENWOOD Electronics Canada Inc. for the province of Alberta

    MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO (Communications) --

June 7, 2012.  KENWOOD Electronics Canada Inc. is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $4.2M contract to supply a digital radio communications system for a privately owned gas company that is the main supply chain for household consumer gas in the province of Alberta. The contract is to build and install a provincial wide digital radio system consisting of 38 sites, 43 Operations Centers and 48 Agency Offices located throughout Alberta. KENWOOD was awarded the contract against stout opposition from many vendors; the system is based on KENWOOD’s comprehensive and efficient NEXEDGE® NXDN® radio platform.

KENWOOD’s NEXEDGE® NXDN® platform will provide two-way radio communications for a workforce of approximately 1,400 users.  The system will be utilized for a number of groups including: Gas Distribution Operators, Instrumentation and Electronics Technologists, and many other field, supervisory and office staff, including several dispatching positions - all networked over a Province-wide geographical service territory. The systems are linked using KENWOOD’s IP capable solutions that will offer the continuity of seamless radios communications using both land-line and microwave connectivity.

Robert Harvey, President of KENWOOD Electronics Canada Inc. said “Our success was not only based on our NEXEDGE® radio solution but on our ability to provide high level project management, technical, engineering, and installation expertise that made us a stand-out. Our NEXEDGE® products and systems are being embraced in both the public and private sectors across Canada for their innovation and ease of migration and integration.”

The privately owned gas company, currently using an existing analogue radio infrastructure, is to be upgraded with KENWOOD’s NEXEDGE® digital technology to better increase efficiencies and productivity to customers. The workforce will now benefit by having advantages including text messaging, GPS and upscale dispatch capabilities in order to coordinate field services. The new system will also have radio traffic recording and over-the-air programming (OTAP); the necessary tools for a more comprehensive radio solution will be available.

Chris Millbank, KENWOOD’s National Government & Utility Account Specialist, said ”KENWOOD provided a complete end-to-end solution for this project and we are recognized to not only be a system provider, but a solution integrator. This is truly a new and exciting time for KENWOOD Electronics Canada Inc.”

The NEXEDGE® platform provides multiple solutions in one system.  Systems are being installed across Canada providing digital linked multi-site networks for Government, Utility, Public Safety, and Specialized Mobile Radio networks.  The KENWOOD NEXEDGE® products operate in 25/12.5/6.25kHz analog, digital, and analog/digital, allowing users to smoothly migrate from an existing analog system to a digital network seamlessly and economically.
