Thank you for choosing the KENWOOD transceivers. By utilizing this software, you can enjoy the versatility of the KENWOOD transceivers through the memory channel management or edit functions.
About this software
You can use the MCP-1A to create data such as memory channels and menus on a PC by connecting the TH-K2/K4, TM-271/471/281/481 to the PC by using an optional Programming Cable PG-4Y / KPG-22U (for the TH-K2/K4) or KPG-46A / KPG-46U (for the TM-271/471/281/481).

This software is designed to run on the above operating systems.
This software also runs on Windows® 10 and Windows® 11. (Noted on June 23, 2022)
Applicable operating systems are subject to change without notice due to the end of the technical support by Microsoft Corporation or change of the product specifications.
2. Processor
  Faster than the recommended CPU for each OS.
3. System Memory (RAM)
  Larger than the recommended System Memory for each OS.
4. Free Hard Drive Space
  2MB or more of free hard drive space.
5. Peripheral Devices
A display with resolutions higher than XGA (1024 x 768).
A keyboard and a mouse, or other pointing devices.
An RS-232C interface (corresponding to COM1 to COM20), or a USB 2.0 interface.
6. Programming Cable
An optional Programming Cable PG-4Y (for the TH-K2/K4 : RS-232 interface), KPG-22U (for the TH-K2/K4 : USB 2.0 interface), KPG-46A (for the TM-271/471/281/481 : RS-232 interface), or KPG-46U (for the TM-271/471/281/481 : USB 2.0 interface).
Ask your dealer about purchasing the Programming Cables.
A Virtual COM port driver needs to be installed onto the PC to use the KPG-22U / KPG-46U programming cables.
Before starting to edit the data in the MCP-1A, you must first "Read" data from the transceiver. (The MCP-1A must recognise the exact model type of the transceiver.) Writing data to the transceiver without reading the transceiver's exact model type, may result an error.
Set Menu 31 of the TH-K2/K4 to "PC ON" before connecting it to a PC.
Turn the transceiver OFF before connecting it to a PC.
Notes on usage
Users are required to obtain an approval from JVC KENWOOD Corporation, in writing, prior to redistributing this software on a personal web page or packet radio.
Users are prohibited to assign, rent, lease, or resell the software.
Users are prohibited to revise, change, translate, merge, de-compile, or reverse engineer the software.
JVC KENWOOD Corporation does not warrant that quality and functions of this software comply with each user's purpose of use of this software, and unless specifically described in this document, JVC KENWOOD Corporation shall be free from any responsibilities to any defects and indemnities to any damages or losses. Selection and installation of this software shall be done by the user's own designation. The user shall take full responsibility for the use and effects of this software.
JVC KENWOOD Corporation shall be free from any responsibilities for any incidental losses or damages, such as missing communications or a call opportunity, caused by a failure or performance error of this software.
JVC KENWOOD Corporation shall own all copyrights and other intellectual properties for the software and all manuals and documents attached to the software. The user shall be allowed to use, not to resell, the software by obtaining a license from JVC KENWOOD Corporation. While the media on which the software is stored is possessed by the user, the ownership for the software itself shall be reserved for JVC KENWOOD Corporation.
Installing the MCP-1A
Extract the downloaded file "" into a designated folder.
In the designated folder, a folder labeled "M1A311" will be created.
Execute the "setup.exe" in the folder labeled "M1A311", and follow the instructions that appear on the display to install MCP-1A.
The MCP-1A does not operate properly when selecting other models; you must select the correct model.
If you select a different model by mistake, re-install the MCP-1A.
Administrator privileges are required when installing the MCP-1A.
Uninstalling the MCP-1A
Select "MCP-1A" in "Uninstall a program" ("Add or Remove Programs" for Windows® XP) in the Control Panel and follow the instructions that appear on the display to uninstall the software. Or double-click "setup.exe", and follow the instructions that appear on the display to uninstall the software.
Created files using the MCP-1A are not deleted by uninstalling the software; you must manually delete any files that you created.
Administrative privileges are required to uninstall the MCP-1A.
Always exit the MCP-1A before uninstalling the software.
