Thank you for choosing the KENWOOD TH-D72A/E transceiver. By utilizing this software, you can enjoy the versatility of the TH-D72A/E transceiver through the memory channel management or edit functions.
 
About this software
You can use the MCP-4A to create data such as memory channels and menus on a PC by connecting the TH-D72A/E to the PC by using a USB cable supplied with the TH-D72A/E.
The MCP-4A can retrieve memory channel frequencies by opening ([File] → [Open]) data files which are created by the following KENWOOD Memory Control Programs. Click to see the details.
 
About virtual COM port driver
A virtual COM port driver needs to be installed onto the PC to use the MCP-4A with a USB cable.
  ATTENTION:Do not connect the transceiver to a PC using a USB cable before installing the virtual COM port driver.
 
Operating Environments

Windows Vista® (Service Pack 2 or later)(32-bit or 64-bit)
Windows® 7 (RTM or later) (32-bit or 64-bit)
Notes:
This software is designed to run on the above operating systems.
This software also runs on Windows® 8.1, Windows® 10, and Windows® 11. (Noted on June 23, 2022)
Applicable operating systems are subject to change without notice due to the end of the technical support by Microsoft Corporation or change of the product specifications.
2. Processor
  Faster than the recommended CPU for each OS.
3. System Memory (RAM)
  Larger than the recommended System Memory for each OS.
4. Free Hard Drive Space
  30 MB or more of free hard drive space.
5. Runtime
  Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
6. Peripheral Devices
 
A display with resolutions higher than XGA (1024 x 768).
 
A keyboard and a mouse, or other pointing devices.
 
USB 2.0 interface.
 
Attention
Before starting to edit the data in the MCP-4A, you must first "Read" data from the transceiver. (The MCP-4A must recognise the exact model type of the transceiver.) Writing data to the transceiver without reading the transceiver's exact model type, may result an error.
When you exchange the channel data between different model types such as "TH-D72A and TH-D72E", please use the MCP-4A's Import / Export function.(Please refer to the MCP-4A's help file for detail)
Turn the transceiver OFF before connecting it to a PC.
You cannot connect the TH-D72A/E to a PC COM port via an RS-232C cable.
 
Notes on usage
Users are prohibited to assign, rent, lease, redistribute, or resell the software.
Users are prohibited to revise, change, translate, merge, de-compile, or reverse engineer the software.

JVCKENWOOD Corporation shall own all copyrights and other intellectual properties for the software and all manuals and documents attached to the software. The user shall be allowed to use, not to resell, the software by obtaining a license from JVCKENWOOD Corporation. While the media on which the software is stored is possessed by the user, the ownership for the software itself shall be reserved for JVCKENWOOD Corporation.
 
Installing the MCP-4A
Extract the downloaded file "M4A103.zip" into a designated folder.
In the designated folder, a folder labeled "M4A103" will be created.
Execute the "setup.exe" in the folder labeled "M4A103", and follow the instructions that appear on the display to install MCP-4A.
Notes:
The MCP-4A does not operate properly when selecting other models; you must select the correct model.
The MCP-4A automatically creates a data folder as "...\My Documents\KENWOOD\MCP-4A" (for Windows®XP) or "...\Documents\KENWOOD\MCP-4A" (for Windows Vista®, Windows® 7).
Administrator privileges are required when installing the MCP-4A.
To change the help file's language (English / Japanese) you must re-install the MCP-4A.
 
Uninstalling the MCP-4A
Select "MCP-4A" in "Uninstall a program" in the Control Panel and follow the instructions that appear on the display to uninstall the software. Or double-click "setup.exe", and follow the instructions that appear on the display to uninstall the software.
Created files using the MCP-4A are not deleted by uninstalling the software; you must manually delete any files that you created.
The MCP-4A automatically creates a data folder as "...\My Documents\KENWOOD\MCP-4A" (for Windows®XP) or "...\Documents\KENWOOD\MCP-4A" (for Windows Vista®, Windows® 7).
Administrative privileges are required to uninstall the MCP-4A.
Always exit the MCP-4A before uninstalling the software.

.Revises an error where the speed and track angle data are reversed in $GPRMC sentence when saving the TH-D72A/E GPS Logger Data as an NMEA(GGA, RMC) Format File (*nme).
 
Ver.1.03 (November 30, 2011)
Adds "Auto Message Reply Delay Time" setting menu : [0], [10], [30](sec).
* Edit > Menu > APRS > Message > Auto Message Reply > Delay Time
Adds "Time-out Timer" setting menu : [0.5], [1.0], [1.5], [2.0], [2.5], [3.0], [3.5], [4.0], [4.5], [5.0], [10.0](min).
* Edit > Menu > Radio > Transmit/Receive > Time-out Timer
Changes the name of the menu "TX Beep (Beacon)" to "TX Beep".
* Edit > Menu > APRS > Basic > Sound > TX Beep
Please also update the main firmware to Ver.1.05 (or later) to enable the functions above.
 
Ver.1.02 (June 30, 2011)
Enables storage of the start-up bitmap images which are retrieved from the TH-D72 to the PC.
* Edit > Menu > Radio > AUXRight-clicking the preview image of the "Power-on" or "GPS Logger" bitmap file opens the pop-up menu from which a bitmap image file can be saved.
