1. JVC KENWOOD’s approach and the IWCE 2012 booth concept

In the field of professional wireless communications, the shift to digital technologies has been gaining momentum in recent years, and KENWOOD products have been at the forefront of this trend: NEXEDGE® digital radio systems have been bought by public utility companies (power, gas, water), local government organizations, transportation companies (rail, bus, etc.) and a wide range of private enterprises; and Project 25 (P25)* professional digital radio equipment has been supplied to the North American public safety market (police, fire departments, etc.). Sales have been growing steadily, year on year. Moreover, Group synergies enable integration with JVC brand products as well as the products and systems of Group company Zetron, Inc. — a US supplier of mission-critical communications solutions — to pursue a growth strategy aimed at expanding the JVC KENWOOD business field to include the provision of total system solutions based on wireless technologies.

Based on the theme of “Bridging Technologies for Total Solutions,” the KENWOOD booth at IWCE 2012 will highlight NEXEDGE® digital radio systems. Among the exhibits will be extended applications and options incorporating original audiovisual technologies, and total solutions employing Zetron’s command & control system.

* P25 is a suite of professional digital radio standards designed mainly for the US public safety market, including police and fire departments.

2. Main KENWOOD booth exhibits at IWCE 2012

Total system solutions employing the technologies and products of the JVC KENWOOD Group.

On display will be total system solutions incorporating KENWOOD digital wireless and audio technologies, JVC audio/video technologies, and Zetron’s command & control system.

(1) Wireless Image System

This system uses digital radios to transmit compressed still images with high picture quality, enabling visual surveillance/monitoring at sites where it would be difficult to install wired cameras or arrange for security staff. This equipment can even be used where there is no available power supply: a system that is capable of powering itself using solar panels will be on view as a reference display.

(2) Noise-cancelling microphones

Also on display will be the KMC-51 and KMC-52 noise-cancelling microphones. Employing a dual-microphone noise-cancelling technology and high-precision DSP signal analysis, these products ensure that the speaker’s voice is singled out for clear transmission, even in noisy environments with loud fire engine and patrol car sirens, or factories where operating machinery produces a high level of background noise. It is planned to conduct a demonstration in the KENWOOD booth so that visitors will be able to hear just what a difference this technology makes.

(3) IP console system compatible with NEXEDGE®

Another exhibit will feature a high-performance, high-reliability command & control system employing Zetron’s MAX console. IP connectivity offers high flexibility, while the optimized interface ensures excellent operating ease. This system enables faster, more accurate response, and it is thus also suited for mission-critical operations.

3. Evolving NEXEDGE® digital radio systems

It is now 4 years since NEXEDGE® digital radio systems were first launched. Over this period NEXEDGE® has been expanded considerably, developing into systems and applications that come in a variety of scalable configurations to suit varied customer requirements.

NEXEDGE® terminals are compatible with AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and DES (Data Encryption Standard), enabling secure communications for public safety workers. They are also compatible with voting systems, so it is possible to configure wireless communications systems for a wide range of applications.

The line-up now features 900MHz products in addition to VHF/UHF/800MHz models, enabling NEXEDGE® to satisfy the requirements of a wide range of customers.
